In the fall of 1967, I transferred to Agriculture after having completed 2 years of Science. I did my undergrad soils thesis during the summer of 1969, graduating that October.
In August of 1969, I married Don Wilkinson of Winnipeg. While he completed his BSA, I worked as a lab technician for the Soil Science Department. Following Don's graduation, we moved to Ontario where he pursued a career in Agriculture. Over the years we lived in Etobicoke, London, Milton and Kemptville. Where possible, I worked as a technician in federal and private labs.
In April 1989, we returned to Manitoba, purchasing a small farm near Oakville. Don commuted to Winnipeg for the next 18 years while I stayed on the farm doing whatever had to be done each day. Over the years, we had sheep and cattle, plus my daughter's hay burning horses. Our land was used for cereals, canola, forages and pasture. Several years ago we decided to rent the crop land to my brothers to reduce the stress load of farming and having a full time job. Don retired in 2007 and sadly now our only livestock are barn cats and a farm dog. We have a large yard with much grass and several flower beds so there is no shortage of things to do during the summer.
We have 2 children. Brent (born in 1978) works for the Winnipeg City Police and Deanne (born in 1985) is entering her second year at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon.
