Jim Henderson:
1. Family
You may recall that I married Liz Larson in 1968 (Pete Saunderson sold me a ticket to my own stag). This coming weekend we celebrate 36 years of marriage. We have two daughters - Keri and Pam. Each of them has one husband and two children - one boy and one girl. Unlike most people we moved away from home and in our travels we have left Keri and her family in Winnipeg and Pam and her family in Fort McMurreay..
2. Education
After U of M we moved to Vancouver where I completed my MBA at UBC. Next was a move to Calgary where I completed my Chartered Accountant designation. I also have had the good fortune of receiving two honorary FCA (Fellow of the Chartered Accountants) designations in Alberta and Manitoba.
3. Career
I began work (finally) with the firm of Riddell Stead & Co. (now KPMG) , Chartered Accountants in Calgary in 1971. While working with them I also began lecturing part time at the Faculty of Business, University of Calgary. By 1974 I had joined the university full time as Assistant Professor and also lectured part time in business at Mount Royal College.
In 1975 I accepted the position of Director of Education for the Institute of Chartered Accountants and moved to Edmonton. I later accepted the same position in Manitoba and continued there until 1991. While in these two positions I continued to lecture part time at University of Winnipeg, University of Manitoba and in my own CA programs.
In 1991 I had a chance to practice what I taught and moved to Fort McMurray (yes, Liz continued to put up with my moves and joined me). I joined Keyano College as Vice President of Student & College Services for four years. In 1995I was then enticed to move to Edmonton again as Vice President of Resources for Grant MacEwan College. I continued there until 2002 when I was offered the position as President of Grande Prairie Regional College. Liz and I hope to be here for awhile.
How is that Tom?
Jim
