Obituary for John David Penner

John David Penner
April 17, 1946 - July 29, 2018

It is with great sorrow that our family announces the passing of John David Penner on the morning of July 29, 2018. John passed away quickly and peacefully after a short illness. His wife and children were able to be with him.

John was born in Osborne, MB and grew up on the farm with his two sisters, Ruth and Alice and one brother, Ernest. He went to the University of MB and received his Degree in Agriculture Economics. He worked at Farm Credit Corp for 30 years in numerous locations including 5 years in their corporate office in Regina. John enjoyed joining friends on hunting and fishing trips every year. He loved working in the yard and taking on the challenge of growing a garden. With the kids in their teen years, John enjoyed taking his wife, Willie on car rides along back roads of wherever they happened to be living. He loved skiing with his family. With retirement and a move to the East Kootenays of BC, John enjoyed skiing in winter and living in the mountains during the summer and in the last few years traveling to Palm Springs to enjoy some warmer weather. Over the years John has made numerous good friends that he continued to keep in contact and visit. John was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending his time with family.

John is predeceased by father Peter, mother Anne, stepmother Elly and brother-in-law Jake Enns.

John is survived by his wife, Willie Penner (nee Enns) of almost 49 years; son Shane David, wife, Susan Webb and their two children Justin and Evan; daughter Sheryl Rae; his siblings: brother Ernest Penner (Marnie); sisters Ruth Moir (Ron) and Alice Cover (Dan); his brothers-in-law: David Enns (Barb) and Abe Enns (Donna); sister-in-law Allison Enns; and numerous nieces and nephews.

For those who wish, donations can be made on behalf of John Penner to the Parkinson Foundation of Canada or the Kidney Foundation of Canada.

The family is currently a planning memorial service on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 10:30 am at Red Deer Lake United Church area near Priddis, Alberta.
