Allan LePoudre 2009

Allan LePoudre B.Sc. Ag/69

My first job following graduation was with the Ontario Department of Agriculture and Food as an assistant ag-rep. for Grey County in Markdale, Ontario. I quit after 6 months, probably hours before they fired me.

I moved back to Calgary to work for Allied Chemicals. I had worked for them the summers of 67 and 68. In 1973 I started working for Chemagro, who transferred me back to Winnipeg in 1974.

In 1979 I joined Sperry New Holland, going back to Calgary as Regional Manager for Alberta and British Columbia. In 1986 New Holland was bought out by Ford. My new job with Ford New Holland was Service Parts Merchandising Manager.

This new job took me to some unique and exciting places, but after 20 plus years of being on the road and in the air, I had had enough. The future was also uncertain with Ford New Holland so I left to start my own business.

In April 1989 my wife and I started an insurance and investment business in downtown Calgary. In 1998 we moved the business to Airdrie, Alberta - a booming city just outside of Calgary. At the same time we bought into a small real estate development company in Airdrie. We sold the insurance and investment business in 2008. We're still involved part-time with the real estate company.

Lorna & I were married in February 1973. We live on an acreage northwest of Airdrie with our horses and best friend, Tana - a border collie. We have one daughter. She and her husband live with their horses, their border collie, Bogey and numerous cats on an acreage at High River,
Alberta.

Our activities and volunteering keep us very busy. We enjoy downhill skiing, camping, horseback riding and travelling. We volunteer with our local community club, the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce, local Progressive Conservative Association, the ALS Society (Lou Gehrig's disease) and the Airdrie & District Ag. Society. In 2005 I was awarded an Alberta Centennial Volunteer Award.

Retirement allows us to leave the cold winter behind. This past winter we spent 2 1/2 months in Australia and New Zealand. Next winter we're going south away from the bitter cold to Arizona and so forth.

Our health is fine, life has been good and we look forward to seeing everybody at the reunion.

Allan LePoudre, CFP, CLU, B.Sc.Ag.,

I am about to set up my very own activity since there aren't any good jobs available.

Could any individual provide any suggestions or web sites as to how to get government grant money to implement my own small business? I have already been looking on the internet but just about every website requires for money and I have been told by the unemployment office to stay away from the websites that ask for cash for grant info as they are rip-offs. I'd personally be sincerely grateful for any support.
